Ranger Coordinators
About the Organisation
The Kimberley Land Council Aboriginal Corporation (KLC) is an association of Aboriginal people in the Kimberley region. It is a peak regional community organisation.
As the Federal Government-recognised native title representative body for the Kimberley region, the KLC has statutory functions under the Native Title Act 1993. In accordance with these functions, it assists Aboriginal people to obtain recognition of, and fully enjoy, their native rights and interests. Operations of the KLC are funded primarily, but not exclusively, by the Department of Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs.
About the Kimberley Region
The Kimberley region is located in the northern part of Western Australia and covers about 421,000 square kilometres. The Kimberley has only three towns with a population of more than 2,000 (Broome, Derby and Kununurra), and the total population is only around 25,000. In addition to the sealed Route 1 which runs along the southern part of the area, the unsealed Gibb River Road runs through the heart of the region from Derby to the highway near Kununurra. Access to much of the region is by dirt road, air or sea.
About the Opportunities
The Kimberley Land Council (KLC) is seeking two Ranger Coordinators to work as part of their Kimberley Ranger Initiative team in Bidyadanga and Fitzroy Crossing, WA.
KLC receives significant funding to maintain the Kimberley Ranger Initiative (KRI), which represents a number of community based Ranger groups that operate across the Kimberley area. Rangers in the KRI engage in Cultural & Natural Resource Management projects, and the program funds Ranger wages in order to deliver an annual work program.
In these positions, you will work with Traditional Owners and supervise Ranger groups in delivering annual work programs and training schedules.
To be successful in this role, you will have experience working in Land & Sea Management in a team-based environment. The ideal applicants will have a demonstrated understanding and knowledge of Aboriginal cultural issues in Northern Australia, a knowledge of native title and land tenure, and experience working independently in remote regional locations.
The successful candidates will enjoy variety in their working day and the opportunity to work with the support of a friendly cohesive team.
KLC provides a fantastic organisational culture, as well as a strong support network. You will be provided with the benefits of training and development opportunities to help you expand your knowledge base and ensure your skills are kept up-to-date.
You will be rewarded with an attractive remuneration package circa $50,512 - $60,106 (dependent on experience and qualifications) plus salary sacrificing options.
Benefits include:
* Five weeks annual leave
* District allowance
* Electricity allowance ($1,075 p.a.)
* 10 days time off in lieu
* Rental subsidy up to 34%.
* Annual leave airfare
* Assistance with removal costs may be negotiated with applicants from outside the Kimberley.
This is your chance to work in an immensely satisfying role and enjoy the multicultural experience of living and working among Australia's indigenous people. APPLY NOW!
